ATC SCM50 SL passive loudspeakers
ATC SCM50SL 3 way passive stand mount loudspeaker.
What we Say:
The ATC SCM50 SL is the 2nd model in the classic range and typifies what ATC are famous for. This is large 3 way standmount loudspeaker that for some people will be the only loudspeaker they will ever need. It is available in a tower version which increases cabinet volume to 70 litres. ATC fit the same driver units in both models. The cabinets are hand crafted near the ATC headquarters in Stroud. Each cabinet is a piece of furniture using quality real wood veneers. The ATC SCM50 SL is relatively easy to accomodate in most homes but does benefit from a bit more space around it than an SCM40.
On first glance the drive units look very similar to that of the SCM 40 but appearances can be deceptive, the tweeter and mid are both improved versions and include improved magnet assemblies that give very audible improvements when in use. The bass driver is also slightly bigger. The front ported design also leads to much greater sense of freedom both in the bass but also through the mid band. The sense of effortlessness is instantly apparent. Anyone that likes a speaker that reproduces scale and dynamics will love the SCM50SL. It isn’t instantly showy or impressive by boosting bass or treble in an unnatural way. It just unravels what is on the recording and presents it to you as it was recorded.
We cannot recommend this speaker highly enough.Enquire about the ATC SCM50 SL passive loudspeakers >
What they say:
The SCM50 ASL (active) and SCM50 SL (passive) are designed to perform at their best in the recording studio or at home with the finest quality hi-fi equipment.
The monitors’ ability to reproduce music and speech with phenomenal accuracy, transparency and dynamics lies mainly in the SM75-150S soft dome midrange driver. However, recent modifications that include the new ATC SH25-76S tweeter and enhanced port profile have brought about further improvements to all performance parameters.
Each drive unit in the active model has its own dedicated and individually matched MOS-FET amplifier, while the 234mm/9″ bass driver incorporates ATC’s unique Super Linear Magnet technology. Our active crossover network consists of a wide band-width, electronically balanced input stage with high common mode rejection and very low distortion.
Like the HF, mid and bass drivers, all electronics are designed and manufactured in-house to create a no-compromise active system. In passive form, the SCM50 SL provides broad and symmetrical dispersion, excellent amplitude and phase characteristics throughout the frequency range.
