Focal Chora 816 2.5 way floor-standing loudspeaker.
What we Say:
The Focal Chora 816 is the middle model up in the Chora Range. It is a large 2.5 way floor standing loudspeaker. The cabinet has a forward firing reflex port that allows the four main drivers to fill your room with deep controlled bass and is a relatively easy load to drive.
The Focal Chora 816 offers a big open dynamic sound with deep controlled bass. It partners well with most electronics.. It’s a 2.5-way speaker featuring one 6.5” woofer and one 6.5″ mid/woofer to deliver power and precision across the frequency range, as well as Focal’s Magnesium/ Aluminium alloy inverted tweeter.
Focal make all of their own drive units and often supply them to other loudspeaker manufacturers. All of their products are handmade in France. We think that Focal have done an excellent job with the Chora range. They work well with the Naim Uniti range as well as a wide range of other equipment.
To conclude the Focal Chora 816 is a great value for money all rounder, it offers large scale detailed sound capable of filling a large room yet is easy to drive.

What they say:
IDEAL FOR HOME CINEMA & MUSIC
2.5-WAY FLOORSTANDING LOUDSPEAKER
The Chora 816 model is a 2.5-way bass-reflex floorstanding loudspeaker. Its woofer and midrange/bass speaker driver, both equipped with the Slatefiber cone, work in perfect harmony for a voluptuous sound reproduction and a perfect bass impact. The sound finds its full dimension in your listening room, with a dynamic midrange and remarkable power handling. A front port is placed below the loudspeaker to reduce distortion and, thanks to the tilt of the loudspeaker stand, Time Alignment provides a soundstage focused on the listener.
Chora 816 is particularly well suited for Home Cinema listening and blends seamlessly into rooms of up to 323ft² (30m²).
The surround linking the dome to its stand uses a memory foam material called Poron. This surround is directly derived from the Utopia’s famous Beryllium tweeter and reduces distortion by a third between 2,000Hz and 3,000Hz, the ear’s high-sensitivity range. The spatialisation and very low directionality of the inverted dome allow silky trebles to be heard from any point in your listening room.
Slatefiber technology, exclusive to Focal, involves the use of recycled, non-woven carbon fibres applied as a sandwich between two layers of thermoplastic polymer. In their quest for perfection, Focal engineers have opted to use non-woven carbon fibres, all pointing in the same direction to achieve even greater rigidity and better damping.
Manufactured in the Focal workshops using an ultra-modern industrial tool, the “slate” effect of the cone provides better damping and rigidity, but also lightness – the three “essentials” of a good speaker driver.
The Chora range boasts a modern design, all lifted onto a tilted stand for Time Alignment, which provides an optimal soundstage, more focused on the listener. The slate colour of the Slatefiber cone adds a final refined, authentic touch.
Chora is available in three finishes: Black, Light Wood and Dark Wood. On-trend colours that blend into different interiors and lend them a unique aesthetic signature.
