LINN Karousel Bearing upgrade for LP12
LINN Karousel single point bearing upgrade for LP12.
What we Say:
The LINN Karousel is the brand new bearing upgrade from LINN. It replaces the Cirkus bearing that has been running for the past 27 years. The bearing is the most critical part of the turntable design and makes a huge difference to performance. The Karousel is the result of an extensive 12 month R&D project to investigate how to make the bearing quieter and more stable. The new bearing is made from 303 grade stainless steel and is now split into three main sections. The main bearing body now fits to the sub-chassis using three lugs which fit into the fixing holes where the bolts used to fit. The top part of the bearing is a clamp that clamps the sub-chassis and bearing tightly together making the interface between the two more rigid. The bottom of the Karousel features a removable sump which allows the oil to be changed without a full turntable strip down and the thrust plate to be inspected for wear.
The Karousel offers a step change in performance for your LP12. If you are looking at your next LP12 upgrade then it should be your number one priority irrespective of the current specification of your deck.

What they say:
Karousel, Linn’s new precision-engineered single-point bearing, offers smoother rotation and greater stability for even better sound from your Sondek LP12.
This innovative new take on our original bearing design has been made possible by technological developments in material science, machining capabilities and mechanical engineering expertise gained from almost half a century of designing and manufacturing the world’s best turntable. That vital union between the platter, spindle, bearing and sub-chassis is now the strongest we’ve ever achieved.
A new diamond-like carbon coating inside the bearing reduces friction between the tip of the spindle and the base of the bearing itself. This reduces the ‘noise floor’ of the turntable, so improves musical reproduction.
The substantial lock-nut fastening on the stainless steel housing increases rigidity at the critical point where bearing and sub-chassis come together. Enhancements to the base of the bearing include a stronger housing for the thrust pad, combined with a smaller, stiffer coated form, to improve the critical area that supports the platter rotation and mass, meaning your vinyl reproduction is more accurate and detailed than ever before.
With Karousel the reduction in friction means that not only will this critical component have a greater lifespan, but your LP12 will continue to give you incredibly accurate listening pleasure for longer than ever before.
