Overview:
The Naim NAC 252 (Naim Audio Control) is the top Pre-amplifier in the classic series. The NAC 252 features 6 line level inputs (2 with Din and RCA). One input can power a Naim phono stage such as the Stageline. Because of this it is easy to add a turntable. Where the NAC 202 just has one row of buttons the 252 has separate rows for listen and record. Because of this the user has more more flexibility. This minimalist approach is typical Naim philosophy, spend the money on things that give the best performance at the price point. It is this approach that gives the Naim NAC 252 2 such a high level of performance for the money.
Performance:
Moving from an Integrated amplifier to a separate Pre and Power amplifier give big performance advantages. The delicate incoming signal no longer has to live in the same space as the large power supply. The quieter environment preserves the integrity of the incoming signal. The NAC 252 must be used with Supercap DR external supply. Inside the 252 the main feature is a large circuit board. Class leading performance is achieved- because Careful attention is paid to circuit layout, grounding and mechanical decoupling. Naim use Alps motorised potentiometers for volume and balance controls therefore preserving the delicate signal . Each section of the pre-amplifier is connected to an individual power supply rail within the Supercap DR. No other company makes amplifiers in quite the same way Naim do. This attention to detail is what gives the Naim amplifier range such a distinctive dynamic sound.
Upgrade path:
The NAC 252 is the top step in the Classic series and the next upgrade step after this is the NAC 552 DR.
