Overview:

The Naim NAC 282 (Naim Audio Control) is the second step in the Naim Pre-amplifier ladder. The NAC 282 features 6 line level inputs (2 with Din and RCA). One of the inputs can also power a Naim phono stage should you want to connect up a turntable. Where the NAC 202 just has one row of buttons the 282 has separate record and listen buttons. A balance control and Mono and Mute buttons are also included. This minimalist approach is typical Naim philosophy, spend the money on things that give the best performance at the price point. It is this approach that gives the Naim NAC 282 2 such a high level of performance for the money.

Performance:

Moving from an Integrated amplifier to a separate Pre and Power amplifier give big performance advantages. The delicate incoming signal no longer has to live in the same space as the large power supply. This quieter environment means that the integrity of the incoming signal is preserved. The NAC 282 is powered from an external source such as a NAP 200 DR. Inside the NAC 202 the main feature is a large circuit board. Careful circuit layout and grounding is used throughout as is mechanical decoupling to reduce microphony. Naim use a high quality Alps motorised potentiometer for volume and balance controls . No other company makes amplifiers in quite the same way Naim do. This attention to detail is what gives the Naim amplifier range such a distinctive dynamic sound.

Upgrade path:

The NAC 282 is a future proof product. Hook it up to a NAP200 DR power amplifier for a great sounding combination. To improve the performance a number of different options are available. Adding a Hi-cap DR will improve performance because it provides a separate low noise supply for each channel. Add a second Hi-cap DR to yield further improvements because it gives each channel a PSU each. Add a supercap toimprove things further still. This is a handy stepping stone to move to a NAC 252.

Overview

Step up from the NAC 202 and you arrive at the outstanding NAC 282, which includes the NAPSC power supply unit optionally available on its sibling. The NAPSC independently powers the NAC 282’s digital and control circuits, leaving its audio circuits to either the power supply of a NAC 155 XS or NAP 200 power amplifier, or to one of our standalone FlatCap XS, HiCap or SuperCap power supplies. The result is even greater transparency and superior musicality plus, of course, all the flexibility you’d expect from one of our preamplifiers.

Technology & Craft

Low resonance circuit boards and anti-vibration, resonance control feet maximise isolation, hence minimizing the effects of microphonic vibration on the highly sensitive electronic components.

The NAC 282 features a silent microprocessor that sleeps during listening and controls all aspects of the amplifier. Optical protection circuits continuously monitor the power supplies ensuring safe shut-down in the event of a power cut.

A user configurable ‘Smart IR’ system remote control is supplied. Two of the six inputs on the Naim Audio NAC 282 can be configured either as the usual DIN inputs, preferred for their superior earthing and impedance matching, or for use with the more common RCA phono connectors, allowing a wide range of non-Naim Audio cables and components to be used. A dedicated unity-gain input is provided for use with the Naim Audio AV2 processor or similar.
