Information

What We Say:

This superb deck comes complete with the Rega Neo PSU and with different cartridge options.

Since its launch, the Rega Planar 8 has garnered rave reviews and multiple awards. It is a complete redesign of the outgoing RP8, featuring a brand new plinth and RP880 tonearm.

The new design doesn’t just look amazing, but it is functional too. The skeletal design means that mass is kept to an absolute minimum.Stiffness has been maximised due to the revolutionary laminated structure. This structure ensures that energy is not stored and that resonance is not at a single frequency but spread over a wide range. The Neo motor power supply is adjusted during the production process to ensure that the motor produces minimum vibration. It continues to use the dual belt drive system and a 3 part bonded float glass platter.

The result is a deck that has a reduced footprint closer to that of the Rega Naiad. Rega have also introduced a smaller footprint wall-shelf to complement the Planar 8 design. A new dust-cover has been designed due to the lack of plinth. This locates on the spindle and a locating hole at the rear of the platter.. The ground-up redesign ensures that every last piece of information can be retrieved from your treasured vinyl and delivered to your ears.

The Rega Planar 8 is guaranteed to open eyes and ears with its combination of sublime performance and gorgeous looks. We wholeheartedly recommend you get in touch with DNA Audio to experience it yourself.

Specification

What They Say:

The Planar 8 was inspired by the ultimate Rega turntable, the ‘Naiad’.  We decided early on that instead of an evolution of the previous RP8, the new Planar 8 was to be developed and engineered to encapsulate the essence of ‘Naiad’ at an affordable price. Our aim was to deliver a level of performance far beyond what has been achieved at this price point before.

Every aspect of the Planar 8 is engineered to extract as much detail from the vinyl surface as possible. We have used the most advanced materials and engineering solutions built around a supremely lightweight plinth to ensure the greatest level of performance. The Planar 8 is supplied with the new RB880 tonearm and Neo PSU as standard which offers electronic speed change, advanced anti-vibration control and user adjustable electronic fine speed adjustment to ensure total accuracy and control over the motor. The outer frame of the previous model has now been removed and a new stylish, removable, single piece dustcover has been introduced further reducing the overall mass of the turntable.

“If you are looking for maximum musical intensity for your pound, dollar or euro you will be very hard pressed to find a better turntable at anywhere near this price. I am a Rega RP10 user myself but I’ve been hearing new things on this newcomer at nearly half the price, it truly is a triumph of analogue audio engineering” Jason Kennedy – editor of the ear.net October 2018.
